About Jordan Nahmias
Executive Coach for Lawyers & Law Firm Consultant | Toronto, Canada
A Lawyer Who Lost His Voice — And Found His Mission
I built the career I was supposed to want — and it nearly broke me.
For twelve years, I practised entertainment law in Toronto. I was a partner in a firm that I helped to build. I produced films, co-founded a festival, sat on boards, and filled every available hour with achievement. From the outside, it looked like I had it figured out.
From the inside, I was losing my voice. Literally.
Twice, I damaged my vocal cords badly enough to need surgery. The second time, I spent a month in enforced silence — unable to speak a single word. And in that silence, I finally heard what I'd been willingly ignoring for a long time: the career I'd built with so much discipline and sacrifice was costing me more than I'd been willing to admit.
That's the thing about high performers. We're so good at pushing through that we don't notice when "pushing through" becomes the whole identity. The sacrifices start to feel normal. The exhaustion becomes a badge. And the question we never ask — “Is this actually what I want?” — gets buried under the next deadline, the next deal, the next obligation.
I know this pattern because I lived it. And I know there's a way out that doesn't require blowing up your career or your life.
Today, I work with individuals, firms, and organizations — from law partners quietly asking “Is this it?” to leadership teams trying to figure out why their best people keep burning out or walking away.
I'm not here to tell you to quit your job and find your bliss. That's not how the real world works, and it's not what most people actually want. What I help people do is something harder and more honest: figure out what excellence is actually costing them, what they're unwilling to give up, and how to build a version of their professional life that doesn't require sacrificing everything else.
I call this work getting unstuck — because that's what it feels like. Not broken. Not burned out (not yet, anyway). Just... stuck. Caught between the life you've built and the one you sense is possible.
That work takes different forms depending on what's needed. I provide one-on-one executive coaching for lawyers and senior professionals navigating career transition, burnout, and leadership challenges. I design and facilitate workshops for law firms and professional organizations — on leadership, sustainability, and the hidden costs of high performance. I deliver keynotes that cut through the usual conference noise. And I consult with firms that are serious about building cultures where their best people actually want to stay.
The through-line is always the same: helping high performers stop white-knuckling their way through careers that were supposed to feel better than this.
Why Work With a Lawyer-Turned-Coach?
A Professional Coaching Certification from New Ventures West. A JD from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. Twelve years inside the machine — as a practising lawyer, a firm partner, a producer, and a founder.
But more than credentials, I bring the thing that matters most: I've sat where you're sitting. I've stared at the ceiling at 2 a.m. wondering how something I worked so hard for could feel so hollow. And I've done the work — on myself, first — to find a different way.
If you're a law partner or senior professional who's ready to stop performing and start building something that actually fits, let's talk.
